The creation of basketball: In early December 1891, Canadian Dr. James Naismith, a physical education professor and instructor at the International Young Men's Christian Association Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts was trying to keep his gym class active on a rainy day. He sought a vigorous indoor game to keep his students occupied and at proper levels of fitness during the long winter. He wrote the basic rules and nailed a peach basket onto a 10-foot elevated track. Someone had to take a mop and get the ball out from the net.
What the goal of the game is: One of the goals are to score the most points in the end of the game. When you have the most baskets at the end you win the game. During the game you can score a regular shot which is worth 2 points, you cane score a three pointer which is 3 points, you can score a basket and get fouled on which means you get and extra shot so you could score 3 points if you make everything, you can get fouled and not make the shot which gives you a chance to score 2 points.
